The
Promises of God
are
the basis of our hope!
John
3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave
his
only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth
in
him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The
purpose for this study is to get back to the basics,
and
I have designed this study ( I hope) to be an
interactive
study. The basic study will be given here
then
once a week we can meet to discuss the topic
I will
include study questions that you can
respond
to for the purpose of deepening and familarizing
ourselves
with Gods word.
It seems
that the churches today are teaching more on the
"gifts"
and the rewards of a relationship with God,
then
our need to be in worship with our divine creator.
Though,
the gifts and rewards are important and should
have
thier place in our lives and churches
Salvation,
and the working out of that salvation
is
the basic hope.
For
it is the rock upon which I build all things concerning
my
walk with him!
Matthew
7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these
sayings
of mine,
and
doeth them, I will liken him unto
a
wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Matthew
7:25 And the rain descended, and
the
floods came, and the winds blew,
and
beat upon that house;
and
it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Matthew
7:26 And every one that heareth
these
sayings of mine, and doeth them not,
shall
be likened unto a foolish man,
which
built his house upon the sand:
Matthew
7:27 And the rain descended,
and
the floods came, and the winds blew,
and
beat upon that house;
and
it fell: and great was the fall of it.
Our
first study:
Faith.
Of
course most of us know the most
popular
verse on the subject of faith:
Hebrews
11:1 Now faith is the substance of
things
hoped for,
the
evidence of things not seen.
Look
how faith becomes an important
part
of our walk and our ministry:
Hebrews
11:6 But without faith it is
impossible
to please him: for he that
cometh
to God must believe that he is,
and
that he is a rewarder of them
that
diligently seek him.
Faith
just became a do or don't criteria!
If
you have it you please God,
if
you don't...well you get the idea!
Why
do you think that faith is so important?
Can't
God just take our realtionship with him at face level?
The
truth of the matter is, everything we do is based
on
a measurement of faith:
I expect
the chair to hold my weight.
I expect
the car to stop when I apply the brakes
I expect
the coffee to be hot when I pour the first cup.
This
is faith. It is an expectancy. And it is the same
with
God.
Look at the faith Jesus said was ours!
Matthew
17:20 And Jesus said unto them,
Because
of your unbelief: for verily I say
unto
you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard
seed,
ye shall say unto this mountain,
Remove
hence to yonder place; and it
shall
remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Did
anyone see that besides me? Nothing shall be
impossible
to me? With Faith! Now that is big
news!
Nothing?! Now my friends,
I am
a guessing but I would venture to say
that
we all have alot of NOTHINGS standing in our way
that
a simple grain of mustard seed of faith could
remove!
So...what
stops us from being victorious?
I think
I may know:
Matthew
14:28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord,
if
it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
Matthew
14:29 And he said, Come. And
when
Peter was come down out of the
ship,
he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
Matthew
14:30 But when he saw
the
wind boisterous, he was afraid; and
beginning
to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
Matthew
14:31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth
his
hand, and caught him, and said unto him,
O
thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Yeah,
I saw that too...He stopped looking at Jesus
just
in time to start going under...fear gripped him
and
doubt filled his heart...Remember without faith, we
can't
please him, no wonder Jesus said Peter was of little
faith...Funny
how Peter sounds a lot like Terri!
The
Questions!
1.How
do we please God?
2.Why do we fall short in pleasing God?
3.Find two more verses on Faith.
4. What
is one thing that you can do this
week
based soley on faith in Jesus?
5.What is the purpose for OBH?
